“Our group of four + 1 dog spent a week in "The Lodge" and what a lovely week it was.”
Everything was as described. As I am slightly disabled, I didn't venture upstairs, but our friends who did sleep up there said it was excellent. Plenty of hot water everywhere. On the ground floor en-suite to the twin bedroom, lovely bathroom with powerful shower over the bath. Kitchen was spacious and very well equipped. Lounge/dining room with dining table/chairs, 2 settees, big TV with freeview. Nice little patio with table and chairs. Not very secure for a small dog but if the dog is well behaved like ours, not a big problem. The town itself has plenty of interesting and useful shops not just Tacky "Gift" shops, if any. We ate in the "George" on every night bar one. We ate in the Kings Head pub/restaurant on the first night and I had a Ribeye steak destroyed, it's just a bit further away from the "The Lodge". Once was enough. On the last night I had a Ribeye in the George and it was to die for, with a bread and butter pudding to follow. There is a restaurant at the rear (no dogs) but you are welcome in the bar with your well behaved dog, while they eat the dog treat biscuits offered by the staff. The staff were attentive and the local clientele were really friendly. Our friends said there are some very nice walks in the area and we all travelled to many historical sites and places of interest, meeting such friendly and welcoming people. Besides all that, this holiday destination is in our estimation "Highly Recommended" but I am biased because I've been there and done that and would willingly go back again.
