About the property

Set in the heart of the peaceful Alde valley within easy reach of Aldeburgh and Southwold on the Suffolk Coast, this historic farmhouse provides delightful accommodation for couples and small families alike.  The spacious house is half-Tudor and half Georgian with simple, tasteful furnishings and a wood burning stove with a lovely ‘getaway’ from the rest of the world feel.  When you are ready for some company, there are two local pubs within a short drive from the house.

The ground floor has a kitching/dining room and a living room, and upstairs you’ll find two bedrooms (with a king size bed and twin beds) and a bathroom.  Outside there’s a private lawned garden and plenty of off-road parking.

The novel writer Theodore Francis Powys lived in the house in the late 1800s and ran the farm before ‘retiring’ to Dorset.  Theodore loved the peace and quiet of the countryside and said he “never gave so much as a sunflower-seed for the busy, practical life.”  We hope you’ll find some of the same peace and quiet here too.

The accommodation:

Ground floor:

The front door leads into a small hallway where there’s a cupboard to hang up your outdoor coats.

Living room: This large room has exposed timber beams and has a wood-burning stove, two sofas (a 2-seater and a 3 seater), coffee table, an antique desk and chair, a small wall-mounted TV with DVD player and a selection of books.  There are two windows looking out to the gardens.

Kitchen/Dining room: There’s a large farmhouse table with six chairs in the middle of the room.  The kitchen has an electric hob, grill and oven, fridge-freezer, slimline dishwasher, washing/drying machine and a microwave.  There’s a fireplace (not in use) and exposed original beams.

First floor:

Steep wooden stairs from the ground floor hallway lead up to a landing with doors to the bedrooms and bathroom.

Bedroom 1: This room has a king size deep mattress on a brass bedstead.  With bedside tables, a chest of drawers, wardrobe, a table and two small bedroom chairs.  There’s an open fire place (not in use), two windows and lovely views over water meadows and fields.

Bedroom 2: A twin bedroom with bedside tables and a wardrobe with hanging space and some shelves.

Bathroom: There’s a bath with a hand-held shower with a wall attachment for showering, a w.c., a hand basin and a heated towel rail.

Outside: There are lawns to the front and side of the house that lead through to a private lawned garden with a table and chairs, a BBQ and mature shrubs.  There is plenty of off-road parking and opportunities for walking on local footpaths.
